The Space Between

About the Exhibition

Debuting her newest work in a vignette exhibition at Friesen Gallery, Canadian artist Fei Disbrow has created an intelligent body of work using both collage and photography. With architectural preciseness, each component is carefully crafted and meticulously placed, resulting in perfectly balanced compositions. Conceptually, she is exploring the fleeting nature of existence. Dancing the fine edge between what is there and what is missing, Disbrow’s work demonstrates the impulse for imagination to fill voids.
“I am interested in the exploration of the in-between, the interspace and how we construct meaning,” Disbrow says. “These works present occurrences of mutations, suggesting possible states of being: before, and after the one presented. Mindful of the conscious and the subconscious, I am both altering landscapes and creating mindscapes.”
Fei Disbrow has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions throughout the United States and Canada. She is the recipient of several grants and awards including the MST Bronze Award for the Emerging Sculptors at the Canadian Sculpture Centre, and she was an Artist in Residence at Banff Centre of the Arts in 2015.
