About the Artist

Lino Tagliapietra

Glass is a wonderful material. Why? Because the glass is alive. Even when it is cool, it is still moving. It is connected with fire, it is connected with water, it is so natural. Glass is my life. — Lino Tagliapietra

Lino Tagliapietra is an influential Italian glass artist who is recognized for his skills and talents world-wide. The Maestro expresses his own forms of creativity through the design and execution of sculptures with high technical and aesthetic quality. Lino is an inspiration to artists and art collectors, and his unique works are reflections of his passion for the material.

Born on the island of Murano, Italy, which has a history of glass-making dating back to 1291, glass blowing was almost a given as a career. At the age of 12, Lino apprenticed with a local glass Maestro and immersed himself in the culture and history of Italian glass blowing. “My medium is glass; I never considered being any other type of artist,” says Lino. “I studied the history of glass—I am the glass person.” After 13 years of glass-making education in glass furnaces and factories, he was given the rank of Maestro. For the next 25 years of his career he would work with many of Murano’s most distinguished glass artists and factories, developing his own personal style while working for commercial glass manufacturers.

Lino’s work is exhibited throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, and is showcased in prominent museums and art galleries.
